Still Life Painting

So here are the still life paintings from this week! The top is a make up for a day I missed. My teacher says its uninteresting and needs to tell a story-

Then inclass we worked on low key, so here is mine. Frank thinks its my best piece yet-

History, Panting, Field Trip and so much more!

Such an exciting day on the blog! I hope everyone has had a fantastic Thanksgiving, for those who celebrate. those who don't, your missing out ;) Anyways, I started by carving a lino block, the smallest I ever have! and may have injured my thumb doing it, but who cares? its art. Its supposed to be a Betta, but what ever.

 2x3 inches!

On Monday in heads and hands we went to a retirement community to draw the old folks. it was way better then it sounds. this was a super rad independent living place with a huge emphasis on art. I did pretty terribly but had a lot of fun and made "Alice" laugh so hard!! They were really great people.

In still life painting, I missed another week :/ But for the holiday. Heres what went on today!! The light one with the blue bottles. Shot glasses will need to be worked on in the future... The paper crane one was my homework, which I have been touching up, and will post pictures of soon!

Lastly, my silly little mind map for art history comparing the Venus of Willendorf and a Madonna

Still Life's and Sketchbook

Sorry for the lack of updates! Work and class have both increased, leaving less blogging time then I would like! But here is some of the things I have been working on :)

My favorite still life so far, copper and glass

My homework for still life that failed a bit, I need to tweek it

Painting silver and glass

Thumbnails for digital media that no one liked

In Digital media we were randomly assigned an illustrator and theme. I got cowboys and indians, and Ralph Steadman (Of Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas fame). Im taking a far twist on cowboys and indians, we will see how it turns out. Thusly no one but gentleman friend likes it

Still Life Painting

Its the 3rd week of still life painting. I ended up choosing a bad location to view the set-up, and so this image isn't as strong. partly because the spot i wanted i thought was taken and instead was being used by someone to store their bag, and mostly because I was lazy and didn't want to go grab an easel. but its an image

Still Life and Sketchbook

So this week in still life painting we had our first homework sketches of our epic 3 week project due, and of course sis an in class painting. I am leanring at I am FAR to stiff. Its exciting to learn to be looser and emulate the artists that I love! :D Anyways, this weeks in class assignment came out MUCH better then last week. Im actually really proud of it. I know it has its flaws, but its a huge step already! As for my homework, I get to paint my little cow/giraffe/rumanant figure I picked up a year ago for still life drawing. Mr. Lanza and I decided that the bottom left was the strongest, so with a few tweeks thats what I will be painting. Yay for getting to paint some fun! Weird, Im gettin super into it. Prolly because Lanza is a great teacher, even just in week 2. as opposed to some of me other teachers who are killing my creativity :( Just have to power through it!

Inspired by my friend Toure, I collaged some city maps onto my sketchbooks! It was REALLY easy and cheap (free visitor maps for the pier and downtown). I painted a layer of matte medium on the sketchbook cover, then laid the dry map on top of it. Make SURE you seal the edges really good! Extra layers of medium around the edges! When that dries coat with a layer of gloss medium, again with a strong focus on the edges. I did 2 coats of gloss medium, so lets see how they hold up!
